Spice Spoon in OK! Magazine – December/January 2016

Hello – Wishing you all a very Happy 2016. I’ve been away from my blog for a while, and I apologise for that. Thank you for all your comments and emails while I have been away. I plan to start this year off with a chocolate cake recipe – it will be posted here, soon.

In the meanwhile, I wanted to share my OK! Magazine interview with you. It’s on the newsstands now, in Pakistan and Dubai. Zain took these portraits of me – in -1C temperature. It was about to rain and we had to move fast. Imagine trying to do that with a three-year-old running around. But it worked – we bribed him with a croissant and strapped him into his stroller (which he normally refuses to sit in). Here is the interview, below, I hope you enjoy reading it.

  1. I recently discovered your blog and absolutely love it! Colourful, inspiring, with so many touches of homeliness and culture, just like your interview above, for OK! Pakistan. Congratulations!

I feel a great connection to your experiences and cookery. I come from a Pakistani- almost forgotten Afghani background, born and raised in Kenya, to Pakistani parents, where a loving mother always ensured that language and culture is especially preserved through food.

My own journey to discovering more of my roots, Pakistani and Afghani, led me to pore through recipes from families, to find originality and connections, trying and testing them with zeal and enthusiasm, finally leading me to your blog.

Thank you Shayma for every effort and beauty you bring about in your blog, for helping me to rediscover my roots through food and may you continue to grow! In shaa Allah, Ameen!

PS: The first recipe I tried is your Morabayeh Holou, last week, and it turned out delicious!
