Wordless Wednesday

Wonders of Pakistan IV: my husband. It’s his birthday today, on St. Patty’s Day.

My own recipe for a chocolate cake with fleur de sel chocolate ganache, for his birthday dinner tonight.

  1. Birthday wishes to your husband. He’s got love this cake.
By some chance, if he doesn’t, you can always send it to me. 🙂
    Have a lovely evening.

  2. Looks like we have a BAKER in the house and a fine one at that! Lovely lovely … happy birthday to the fab hub! Cape Gooseberry… you are a lady after my heart!!WOW!!

  3. Wowww !!!!! Amazing !!!

  4. @Aparna @Deeba @Cristina Yikes, all you beautiful pastry chefs are visiting! Thanks, lovely girls. Z will be pleased to see he’s getting attention on the blog. As for the cake, ’twas a tad bit sticky on top (not enough flour or didn’t cook it long enough; a mystery). Still experimenting with the recipe. But the ganache concealed everything. tee hee x s

  5. My best happy bday wishes to your husband! 🙂 Enjoy the dinner!

  6. Happy Birthday to your hubby!
    Yumm shot!

  7. Happy birthday to your husband Shayma…and that is a delicious cake !

  8. looks absolutely divine. Happy birthday Z!!

  9. Happy birthday to your husband. With a cake like this, how could it be anything else?

  10. Happy birthday to your husband. Have a wonderful day! 😉

  11. Wow!! looks amazing.

  12. gourmand says:

With a cake as sumptuous as the one you conjured…hubby dear would want to eat and keep it too!! Happy birthday to hubby and advice: more vigorous workout this weekend, following Spicey’s great birthday meal.

  13. Happy birthday to your husband. Cake looks gorgeous. I do love the look of physalis (physalises?), but you wouldn’t want to eat a whole bowl, would you?

  14. @Jasmine @Zurin @Indrani @AF @Sarka @Asma Thank you. The wishes were most appreciated by my husband.

@Fearless Kitchen Thank you for your kind words and for your first-time visit.

@Gourmand Thanks, Gourmand. We only had two thin slices each; the rest is going to the office. I know, you’re right, we need to put those running shoes on and go out. PS When are you coming for a visit and some homemade food? I promise to arrange lots of sunshine. Spring is here!

@Ollie Thanks, Ollie. Definitely not a whole bowl, just one for adornment on the cake. Physalisi, perhaps (we should know our Latin, shouldn’t we)? Actually I think physalis is plural, too. How about we go with ‘cape gooseberries’? 😉

  15. Shayma, this cake is so beautiful! Isn’t icing amazing–the way it conceals all the flaws? i regularly bake lopsided cakes and then am required to over-frost them. No one seems to mind, and I bet your husband had no idea the cake was anything but perfect!

  16. Shayma, what a gorgeous looking-cake. But what I really want to know is, how do you make those pretty little green cardamom pods appear on the left of every title?

Passing chocolate cake recipe on to @minkyhonor. She’s the pastry chef in the house.

    love, Miss W x

  17. But wait, will you share the recipe?

    Miss W

  18. Lovely cake. Love how ganache can cover a multitude of sins and flaws 😉

  19. This looks delicious as always.. You should publish your recipes xx I have tagged you in my blog x

  20. Just looking at your photos makes my fat mamma mouth GUSH with saliva – GORGE. I am going to try this cake, I tried Nigella’s “birthday” cake once but it was a disaster – v dry. Am terrified of baking chocolate cake but will have another stab. Fx

  21. Sending my birthday wishes to your husband and hoping to see this cake deconstructed soon!

  22. The cake is beautiful… My daughter’s birthday is also on St. Patrick’s day 🙂

  23. @Smallkitchcara Thanks so much. Ganache is the best baking veil there is 🙂

@Miss Whistle Thank you so much for your lovely words. The cardamoms are there thanks to the clever friend who designed the site for me- Rob Redman at The Fiction Desk (@thefictiondesk, he is @foodinrome’s fiancé.) I will be posting the recipe soon, it needs to be tweaked a bit- temperature, amount of flour etc. x s

@Bria Just covered one sin in this case- a slightly sticky (non-raw) top 🙂 Maybe I put too much brown sugar. A mystery. Thanks for visiting.

@Ruth Thank you so much. I shall have a peek at your tag.

@Francesca T I was terrified, too. It was Z’s birthday! But honestly, it’s not difficult and when you’re making it, just email me and I’ll guide you (I’ve had many a disaster in the kitchen in the past when it comes to cakes, I can give lots of advice tee hee). x s

@TasteofBeirut Thank you very much, J.

@Meeso Thank you and wishing your daughter a very Happy Belated Birthday! Seems lots of special people were born on March 17th 🙂
